Blazing Star Farm: About Us
Suzanne Nolter developed Blazing Star Farm to combine her passions for organic gardening,art and nature with her love for Block Island.
She received a certification in ecological horticulture from the UC Santa Cruz Dept. of Agroecology which included working as an apprentice and then teaching assistant at the Alan Chadwick Garden, focusing on french intensive methods.
She majored in English at William and Mary College in Virginia and also studied sculpture and ceramics.
Her art education in natural science illustration and printmaking has continued at UC Santa Cuz and RISD. This fine art background greatly influences her floral designs.
Scott Comings is an accomplished ornithologist and master bird bander and has participated in a number of avian field research studies throughout the Western Hemisphere. He has worked for The Nature Concervancy's Block Island Program since 1997, and currently serves as its Director.
Scott also runs the nature educational program for the Block Island School.
He has authored two books: The Nature of Block Island and A Trail Guide as well as writing a column for the Block Island Times.
He uses his extensive background as a naturalist to write the species descriptions included with each block print.
Blazing Star Farm is managed, owned and operated by Suzanne and Scott.
